Welcome to the SibLink website! The mission of SibLink is to celebrate, serve and connect brothers and sisters of children with special needs through clinical service, teaching and research.
After many years of listening to many different siblings, I have come to know that siblings adapt best to their brothers or sisters' illness or disability when they have information, support from their families, and the opportunity to talk with other children who have had similar experiences.
SibLink was born at Rhode Island Hospital in 1994 when a small group of four siblings and parents of children with special needs came together to share their experiences in a clinical setting. Barbara Kao, PhD was immediately on board to help design a way of evaluating how well the groups met the needs of families. By word-of-mouth, the number and size of SibLink groups grew. Today, SibLink serves siblings of children with medical, developmental, and behavioral conditions. Wendy Plante, PhD joined our team in 1999 to expand our clinical services, teaching and research.
Our program is affiliated with Rhode Island Hospital and its Hasbro Children's Hospital, Bradley Hasbro Children's Research Center and the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
I hope you enjoy going through our website and learning more about the SibLink program. If you would like to learn more about our Sib groups, our research, or would just like additional information about SibLink, please contact us today!
